STUDENT SERVICES

At Frassati Catholic Academy, we believe that every child is uniquely created by God and deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive. We are committed to working collaboratively with students, families, teachers, public school partners, and outside providers to support students as effectively as possible.

Our goal is always to help families understand the supports available and determine the best path forward for each child. Because every student's needs are different, services and supports are considered on an individual basis.

Support Services

Resource Support

Frassati Catholic Academy provides academic support through our Resource Teacher, who may work with students through pull-out services, push-in support within the classroom, small-group instruction, or other individualized interventions.

When determining whether a student may benefit from resource support, we consider a variety of information, including:

Benchmark and progress-monitoring data collected throughout the school year
Classroom performance and academic progress
Teacher observations
Parent feedback
Previous evaluations or educational records
The student's individual learning needs

Students who are performing approximately two or more grade levels below expectations based on multiple measures may be considered for additional resource support. However, no single test score or data point determines eligibility. Our team works together to make informed decisions based on the whole child.

Resource support typically begins in first grade, although individual circumstances may be discussed with administration.

Students with IEPs and 504 Plans

Frassati Catholic Academy works with Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 to support eligible students who attend private or parochial schools within the district's attendance boundaries.

District 118 provides Child Find activities, evaluations, and certain special education services for eligible students attending private and parochial schools. Parents who believe their child may have a disability or may benefit from a special education evaluation may request an evaluation through the district.

Students who transfer to FCA with an existing Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan are also encouraged to meet with administration and Student Services. While a private school may not be able to duplicate every accommodation, service, or placement available in a public school setting, we will work collaboratively with families and teachers to understand each student's needs and determine what supports can reasonably be provided within our educational environment.

Our Individualized Catholic Support Plan

At FCA, we may create an Individualized Catholic Support Plan (ICSP) for students who would benefit from documented accommodations, strategies, or supports within our school setting.

The ICSP is developed collaboratively with the student's family, teachers, administration, and, when appropriate, the student. It helps us identify practical ways to support the student's learning and participation at Frassati Catholic Academy.

Our commitment is to do everything reasonably possible to help students succeed. However, there may be times when a student requires specialized programming, staffing, therapeutic services, or supports that FCA is unable to provide.

If You Believe Your Child May Need an Evaluation

There are a few paths families may consider when seeking additional information about a child's learning, developmental, behavioral, or educational needs.

Private Evaluation

Families may choose to pursue a private educational, psychological, neuropsychological, developmental, or other appropriate evaluation through a qualified professional. Depending on the family's insurance coverage and the type of evaluation, private evaluations may provide helpful information and documentation that can assist in determining a student's needs and appropriate supports.

Request an Evaluation Through District 118

Families may also request that Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 consider their child for a special education evaluation. District 118 states that parents may submit a written request for an evaluation and that the district will review available information and determine the appropriate next steps. This Child Find responsibility also includes students attending private and parochial schools within the district's boundaries.

Preschool Screening and Early Intervention

Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 offers ongoing preschool screenings for children ages 3–5 who live within the district boundaries or who meet the district's eligibility requirements for screening. The screening process is designed to identify children who may benefit from early childhood programming, additional resources, or a special education evaluation.

Families can begin the process by completing District 118's preschool screening intake form. If assistance is needed, please contact D118.

Outside Therapists and Service Providers

If your child receives services from an outside provider, it is extremely important that the family and/or provider contact Mrs. Kaye or FCA Administration before services begin on campus.

This may include providers offering:

Social work or counseling
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Speech-language therapy
Occupational therapy
Physical therapy
Behavioral or therapeutic support
Other specialized services

Before an outside provider may work with a student at Frassati Catholic Academy, we must work together to coordinate the necessary requirements. Depending on the service and provider, this may include:

Parent consent and authorization
Required documentation and provider information
Background check requirements
VIRTUS or other applicable child-safety training
Compliance with FCA visitor and student-safety procedures
Coordination with teachers and the student's schedule
Identification of an appropriate space within the building
Clear communication regarding the student being served and the services being provided

Advance communication is essential. Our goal is not to create barriers to services, but to ensure that all adults working with students are properly approved and that services can be coordinated safely and effectively within the school day.

Preferred and Frequently Used Service Providers

Families are welcome to work with qualified providers of their choice. However, FCA maintains relationships with providers who are familiar with our school environment and processes. Families seeking information about services such as social work, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, ABA, or other supports are welcome to contact Mrs. Kaye or administration for assistance in identifying appropriate resources and discussing providers who may be able to work within the school setting.
