BAND
Band is a music program we are excited to offer through our partnership with Music & Arts. Band is open to students starting in 4th grade and continues through middle school.
Band students start by learning how to play the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, or percussion, and they deepen their understanding of their instrument over time through a diverse selection of music.
Band members play classical, jazz, solo music, and sometimes even popular and film music as a part of the class. Band students learn to be part of a team through interscholastic performance opportunities, and become individual learners through home practice and independent study.
Band continues into high school as well, with most local schools offering it for experienced players. By the time students graduate from eighth grade, they have all the tools they need to be successful in high school band programs and beyond.
Band enrollment is open at the start of the fall semester, starting with instrument tryouts for 4th and 5th graders. Band does not factor into students' GPA, but parents receive reports on student progress twice a year. Band classes are taught in an academic style by a state-licensed instructor like our other course offerings.
